About Heraeus
Heraeus is a German company whose history goes back all the way to 1660 when Isaac Heraeus took over the Faucque Pharmacy in Hanau-Neustadt.
Heraeus engaged in precious metals markets early on, and it is recorded that Franz Heraeus, the successor and son of Isaac, supplied gold for the decoration of a church in 1694.
In 1851, the chemist Wilhelm Carl Heraeus eventually took over the company and made it renowned in the precious metals industry under his leadership. Through his innovative process, he managed to melt platinum in larger quantities and obtain it in a highly pure form. Soon, Heraeus became a popular supplier for jewelries worldwide.
Today, Heraeus Holding, founded as a parent company in 1985, is one of the largest German family-owned companies and operates in five sectors, including the production of high-quality precious metal products.
In 2011, the company generated over 20 billion euros in revenue from the precious metals trade for the first time, conducted through the business division Heraeus Precious Metals.
